The Birth of Jesus Christ
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Matthew 1:18-25 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 ESV
Prayer: Thank you God for the tremendous gift of your Son Jesus, Immanuel, God with us. Amen
The Lights of Christmas Blogger’s Message
One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season is to sit in the darkened living room enjoying the Christmas tree lights. We have big old-fashioned bulbs of all different colors, not the new LED’s. Our lights give off deep color and are nice and bright. For the last three years it has become difficult to buy replacement bulbs. One year I found blue bulbs, the next year green and this year red. I will miss these lights when they no longer work.
Enjoying the lights has such a calming effect on me. It does not seem to matter what has gone on during the day the lights shift me into a different mood. My friend finds such calm and cheer in the lights that she started using them year round in her home. Not a bad idea if you ask me.
Our tree
What would a Christmas tree be without lights? As a Christian it makes me wonder what this world would be like without The Light of God shining bright in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Before I came to relationship with Jesus I did not live in a very bright world. There was not a lot of hope in my world. That all changed in one day. I have never had to worry about The Light being extinguished. The Light of the World did not take all my problems away or give me a carefree life. It did dispel the darkness, give me hope for the future and peace that passes my understanding.
So while the Christmas tree lights are pretty and have a calming effect there is no comparison to how The Light of the World can impact a life when we Let Him.
Wishing you a Blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with the Light of Christ.
